Talking to Your Child About Sensible

We strongly recommend having an open conversation with your child about Sensible. Transparency builds trust, and your child will already see an indicator that the extension is active.

Why tell them?​

  • The extension shows a visible indicator when active — they'll notice it
  • Open monitoring builds trust; secret monitoring erodes it
  • Kids are more likely to come to you with concerns if they know the door is open

  1. This is about safety, not distrust — Frame it the same way you'd frame other safety measures like seatbelts or bike helmets
  2. AI is great for learning — Acknowledge the positive uses. You want them to use AI well, not avoid it
  3. They can always come to you — Make sure they know you're a resource, not just a monitor
  4. It's age-appropriate — As they grow and demonstrate good judgment, monitoring can be adjusted

What your child sees​

When the extension is active, your child sees:

  • A small indicator on the Sensible extension icon
  • When they click the icon: a message explaining that their AI conversations in this Chrome profile are shared with their parent
  • A one-time welcome message when the extension is first linked

The messaging is designed to be informational and age-appropriate (ages 10-17), not scary or coercive.
