Parent Setup Guide

This guide walks you through setting up Sensible from scratch. The whole process takes about 10 minutes.

Before you begin​

Sensible monitors AI conversations in a specific Chrome profile. To make sure only your child's conversations are captured (not yours or other family members'), you'll set up a dedicated Chrome profile for your child.

Step 1: Create a Chrome profile for your child​

Why this matters​

Chrome profiles keep browsing data separate. The Sensible extension only monitors the profile where it's installed. This means:

  • Your own conversations stay private
  • Other family members aren't monitored
  • Only your child's AI chats are captured

How to create a profile​

  1. Open Chrome on your child's computer
  2. Click the profile icon (circle in the top-right corner, next to the three dots)
  3. Click "Add" at the bottom of the profile menu
  4. Choose "Continue without an account" (or sign in with your child's Google account if they have one)
  5. Enter your child's name (e.g., "Emma" or "Kids Profile")
  6. Choose a color/avatar
  7. Click "Done"

Verify you're in the right profile​

  • The profile name/avatar appears in the top-right corner of Chrome
  • Each profile has its own bookmarks, extensions, and history
  • Important: Make sure you're in your child's profile before installing Sensible

Step 2: Create your parent account​

  1. Go to getsensible.app on any device (your phone, laptop, etc.)
  2. Click "Sign Up"
  3. Enter your email and create a password
  4. Verify your email if prompted
  5. You'll land on your parent dashboard

Step 3: Add your child​

  1. In the dashboard, click "Add Child"
  2. Enter your child's name (this is just for your reference)
  3. A link code will be generated (e.g., ABC12345)
  4. Keep this code ready — you'll need it in the next step

Step 4: Install the extension​

Important

Do this on your child's computer, in your child's Chrome profile.

  1. Switch to your child's Chrome profile (click profile icon, then select their profile)
  2. Go to the Chrome Web Store and search for "Sensible"
  3. Click "Add to Chrome"
  4. Click "Add Extension" in the popup
  1. Click the Sensible icon in Chrome's toolbar (puzzle piece icon, then Sensible)
  2. Enter the link code from Step 3
  3. Click "Connect"
  4. You should see: "Connected to [Child's Name]"

Step 6: Verify it's working​

On your child's computer​

  1. Go to claude.ai (or another supported platform)
  2. Send a test message like "Hello, this is a test"
  3. The Sensible icon should show a small indicator dot

On your parent dashboard​

  1. Go to getsensible.app and sign in
  2. Navigate to Conversations
  3. You should see the test conversation appear within a minute

Next steps​

Multiple children​

If you have multiple children:

  1. Create separate Chrome profiles for each child
  2. Add each child in your parent dashboard (each gets a unique link code)
  3. Install the extension in each child's profile
  4. Link with the correct code for each child

Multiple devices​

If your child uses multiple computers:

  1. Each device needs the extension installed
  2. Use the same link code to connect all devices to one child profile
  3. Or generate a new code if you want to track devices separately
