What Your Child Sees
Sensible is designed to be transparent. Your child will see indicators that monitoring is active. Here's exactly what they'll see.
Extension popup
When your child clicks the Sensible icon in Chrome's toolbar, they see:
Sensible Active
Your parent has set up Sensible to help keep you safe online.
What this means:
- Your AI conversations (like with Claude) in THIS Chrome profile are shared with your parent
- Your parent may receive alerts about certain topics
- This helps your parent understand how you're using AI
- Other Chrome profiles on this computer are NOT monitored
Questions? Talk to your parent about why they set this up.
First-run welcome message
The first time the extension is linked, your child sees a one-time message:
Sensible is now active
Hi! Your parent has set up Sensible on this Chrome profile.
Here's what you should know:
- Your chats with AI assistants (like Claude) will be shared with your parent
- Only THIS Chrome profile is monitored — other profiles are private
- This is to help keep you safe, not to get you in trouble
- If you have concerns, talk to your parent
This message only appears once. Your child can always click the extension icon to see the info again.
Persistent indicator
When the extension is active and linked, a small green dot appears on the extension icon. If your child hovers over it, they'll see: "Sensible: Monitoring active."
Why transparency matters
- Children ages 10-17 deserve to know they're being monitored
- Transparent monitoring builds trust
- It satisfies COPPA's direct notice requirements
- It encourages open conversations between you and your child
The language is designed to be age-appropriate, informational, and non-coercive.
