Data Retention Policy

Overview​

Sensible is committed to protecting your family's privacy while providing valuable insights into your child's AI interactions. This policy explains how long we keep data and why.

Retention Period​

90 days

We automatically delete conversation data, alerts, and topic analysis after 90 days from the date of creation.

What Data Is Covered​

The following data types are subject to the 90-day retention period:

  • Conversations: Chat transcripts captured from AI platforms
  • Alerts: Safety notifications and their associated metadata
  • Conversation Topics: Extracted topic analysis and word clouds

Why 90 Days?​

This retention period balances several important considerations:

  1. Privacy Protection: Minimizes long-term storage of sensitive conversation data
  2. Parental Insight: Provides sufficient time to review patterns and address concerns
  3. Storage Efficiency: Keeps costs manageable as we scale
  4. Compliance: Aligns with GDPR "data minimization" principles

Automated Cleanup Schedule​

Our retention cleanup runs daily at 3:00 AM UTC. During each run:

  • Data older than 90 days is identified
  • Associated records (alerts, topics) are cleaned up
  • A log entry is created for audit purposes

What Is NOT Deleted​

The following data is retained indefinitely (until account closure):

  • Account information (email, parent profile)
  • Child profiles and settings
  • Device registrations (active and revoked)
  • Billing and subscription records
  • Audit logs of data access

Early Deletion Requests​

You can request deletion of specific data at any time, regardless of the retention period:

  • Individual conversations: Contact support with conversation details
  • All data for a child: We'll delete all historical data for that child
  • Full account deletion: All data associated with your account

Beta Period Notes​

During the beta period:

  • Retention policy is fixed at 90 days
  • Automated notifications before deletion are not yet implemented
  • Manual deletion requests are processed within 48 hours
  • You can export your data before deletion if needed

Future Features​

We're considering these enhancements for future releases:

  • Custom retention periods: Choose shorter periods (30, 60 days)
  • Pre-deletion notifications: Email alerts before data expires
  • Data export: Self-service download of your data
  • Selective retention: Keep specific conversations longer
